All Hail The Power Of Jesus Name

All hail the power of Jesus’ name, let angels prostrate fall. Bring forth the royal diadem and crown Him Lord of all! Bring forth the royal diadem and crown Him Lord of all!

Ye chosen seed of Israel’s race, ye ransomed from the fall, hail Him who saves you by His grace and crown Him Lord of all! Hail Him who saves you by His grace and crown Him Lord of all!

Sinners whose love can ne’er forget the wormwood and the gall, go spread your trophies at His feet and crown Him Lord of all! Go spread your trophies at His feet and crown Him Lord of all!

Let every kindred, every tribe on this terrestrial ball, to Him all majesty ascribe and crown Him Lord of all! To Him all majesty ascribe and crown Him Lord of all!

O, that with yonder sacred throng we at His feet may fall. We’ll join the everlasting song and crown Him Lord of all! We’ll join the everlasting song and crown Him Lord of all!

Be Unto Your Name

We are a moment, You are forever, Lord of the ages, God before time. We are a vapor, You are eternal. Love everlasting reigning on high.

Refrain: Holy, holy, Lord God Almighty! Worthy is the Lamb Who was slain! Highest praises, honor and glory be unto Your name, be unto Your name.

We are the sinful, You the Forgiver, Jesus Redeemer, mighty to save. You are the Savior we’ll praise forever, bowing before You, blessing Your name Refrain

Complete In Thee

Complete in Thee! No work of mine may take, dear Lord, the place of Thine; Thy blood hath pardon bought for me, and I am now complete in Thee.

Refrain: Yea, justified! O blessed thought! And sanctified, salvation wrought! Thy blood hath pardon bought for me, and glorified, I too, shall be!

Complete in Thee, no more shall sin – Thy grace hath conquered – reign within; Thy voice shall bid the tempter flee, and I shall stand complete in Thee. Refrain

Complete in Thee—each want supplied, and no good thing to me denied; since Thou my portion, Lord, wilt be, I ask no more, complete in Thee. Refrain

Dear Savior, when before Thy bar all tribes and tongues assembled are, among Thy chosen will I be, at Thy right hand—complete in Thee! Refrain

All I Have Is Christ

Refrain: Hallelujah! All I have is Christ! Hallelujah! Jesus is my life!
I once was lost in darkest night, yet thought I knew the way. The sin that promised joy and life had led me to the grave. I had no hope that You would own a rebel to Your will. And if You had not loved me first, I would refuse You still.

But, as I ran my hell-bound race, indifferent to the cost, You looked upon my helpless state, and led me to the cross. And I beheld God’s love displayed: You suffered in my place, You bore the wrath reserved for me. Now all I know is grace! Refrain

Now Lord I would be Yours alone, and live so all might see the strength to follow Your commands could never come from me. Oh, Father, use my ransomed life in any way You choose. And let my song forever be:“My only boast is You!” Refrain

Jesus, Thank You

The mystery of the cross I cannot comprehend, the agonies of Calvary. You, the Perfect Holy One, crushed Your Son, who drank the bitter cup reserved for me.

Refrain: Your blood has washed away my sin, Jesus, thank You. The Father’s wrath completely satisfied, Jesus, thank You. Once Your enemy, now seated at Your table, Jesus, thank You.

By Your perfect sacrifice I’ve been brought near, Your enemy You’ve made Your friend. Pouring out the riches of Your glorious grace, Your mercy and your kindness know no end. Refrain

Praise God

Praise God from whom all blessings flow, in heav’n above and earth below. Praise God the Father, and the Son, Praise God the Spirit three in one.

From all that dwell beneath the skies, let the Creator’s praise arise. Let our Redeemer’s name be sung through ev’ry land by ev’ry tongue!

Eternal are Your mercies Lord! Eternal truth attends Your word! Your praise will sound from shore to shore till suns shall rise and set no more!

Thy Mercy, My God

Thy mercy my God is the theme of my song, the joy of my heart and the boast of my tongue. Thy free grace alone, from the first to the last, hath won my affections and bound my soul fast.

Without Thy sweet mercy I could not live here, sin would reduce me to utter despair. But through Thy free goodness my spirits revive, and He that first made me still keeps me alive.

Thy mercy is more than a match for my heart, which wonders to feel its own hardness depart. Dissolved by Thy goodness I fall to the ground, and weep for the praise of the mercy I found.

Great Father of mercies, Thy goodness I own, and the covenant love of Thy crucified Son. All praise to the Spirit, whose whisper divine seals mercy and pardon and righteousness mine.

Grace Unmeasured

Grace unmeasured, vast and free, that knew me from eternity, that called me out before my birth, to bring You glory on this earth.

Grace amazing, pure and deep, that saw me in my misery, that took my curse and owned my blame, so I could bear Your righteous name.

Refrain: Grace paid for my sins, and brought me to life. Grace clothes me with power to do what is right. Grace will lead me to heaven where I’ll see Your face, and never cease to thank You for Your grace.

Grace abounding, strong and true, that makes me long to be like You, that turns me from my selfish pride, to love the cross on which You died.

Grace unending all my days.You’ll give me strength to run this race, and when my years on earth are through, the praise will all belong to You. Refrain

Grace Greater Than Our Sin

Refrain: Grace, grace, God’s grace. Grace that will pardon and cleanse within. Grace, grace, God’s grace, Grace that is greater than all our sin!

O Great God

O great God of highest heav’n, occupy my lowly heart. Own it all and reign supreme, conquer every rebel pow’r. Let no vice or sin remain that resists Your holy war. You have loved and purchased me, make me Yours forever more.

I was blinded by my sin, had no ears to hear Your voice, did not know Your love within, had no taste for heaven’s joy. Then Your Spirit gave me life, opened up Your Word to me through the gospel of Your Son, gave me endless hope and peace.

Help me now to live a life that’s dependent on Your grace. Keep my heart and guard my soul from the evils that I face. You are worthy to be praised with my every thought and deed! O great God of highest heav’n, glorify Your Name through me!

Be Thou My Vision

Be Thou my vision, O Lord of my heart. Naught be all else to me, save that Thou art. Thou my best thought by day or by night. Waking or sleeping, Thy presence my light.

Be Thou my wisdom, Be Thou my true Word. I ever with Thee and Thou with me Lord. Thou, my great Father, and I, Thy true son. Thou in me dwelling and I with Thee one.

High King of heaven, my victory won, may I reach heaven’s joys, O bright heaven’s Sun. Heart of my own heart, whatever befall, still be my vision, O Ruler of all.

Thy Mercy, my God, Is the Theme of My Song

1 Comment

We’ll be singing this song this coming Sunday morning in our service. We haven’t sung it together before, but Lord willing we will continue to sing it for many years to come. John Stocker wrote the text to this song over 200 years ago in 1776, and Sandra McCracken wrote a fitting tune for the words within the past decade. Usually not all of these stanzas are sung, but each communicates truth found in Scripture. Meditate on these words.

Thy Mercy, My God

Thy mercy, my God, is the theme of my song,
The joy of my heart. and the boast of my tongue;
Thy free grace alone, from the first to the last,
Hath won my affections, and bound my soul fast.

Without Thy sweet mercy I could not live here;
Sin would reduce me to utter despair;
But, through Thy free goodness, my spirits revive,
And He that first made me still keeps me alive.

Whene’er I mistake, Thy kind mercy begins
To melt me, and then I can mourn for my sins;
And, led by Thy Spirit to Jesus’s blood,
My sorrows are dired and my strength is renew’d

Thy mercy is more than a match for my heart,
Which wonders to feel its own hardness depart;
Dissolved by Thy goodness, I fall to the ground,
And weep to the praise of the mercy I’ve found.

Thy mercy is endless, most tender and free;
No sinner need doubt, since ’tis given to me;
No merit will buy it, nor sin stop its course;
Good works are the fruits of its freeness and force.

The doors of Thy mercy are open all day
To the poor and the needy who knock by the way;
But those that bring cash in the mouth of their sack;
The rich and the proud, shall be empty sent back.

Dear Father, Thy merciful word I my all;
Thy promise supports me when ready to fall;
When enemies crowd, to cause doubt and despair,
I conquer them all by the spirit of prayer.

Thy mercy, in Jesus, exempts me from hell;
Of Thy mercy I’ll sing, of Thy mercy I’ll tell;
‘Twas Jesus, my Friend, when He hung on the tree,
That open’d the channel of mercy for me.

Great Father of mercies, Thy goodness I own,
And the covenant love of Thy crucified Son;
All praise to the Spirit, Whose whisper divine
Seals mercy, and pardon, and righteousness mine.

The song sounds like this:

Come Thou Fount

Come, Thou Fount of every blessing, tune my heart to sing Thy grace; Streams of mercy, never ceasing, call for songs of loudest praise. Teach me some melodious sonnet, sung by flaming tongues above. Praise the name! I’m fixed upon it, name of Thy redeeming love.

Hitherto Thy love has blessed me; Thou hast drawn me to this place; And I know Thy hand will bring me, safely home by Thy good grace. Jesus sought me when a stranger, wandering from the fold of God; He, to rescue me from danger, bought me with His precious blood.

O to grace how great a debtor daily I’m constrained to be! Let Thy goodness, like a fetter, bind my wandering heart to Thee. Prone to wander, Lord, I feel it, prone to leave the God I love; Here’s my heart, O take and seal it, seal it for Thy courts above.

O that day when free from sinning I shall see Thy lovely face. Full arrayed in blood washed linen how I’ll sing Thy sovereign grace. Come, my Lord, no longer tarry. Bring Thy promises to pass. For I know Thy power will keep me ’til I’m home with Thee at last.

Fairest Lord Jesus

Fairest Lord Jesus, Ruler of all nature, O Thou of God and man the Son, Thee will I cherish, Thee will I honor, Thou, my soul’s glory, joy and crown.

Fair is the sunshine, fairer still the moonlight, and all the twinkling starry host. Jesus shines brighter, Jesus shines purer than all the angels heav’n can boast.

Beautiful Savior! Lord of all the nations! Son of God and Son of Man! Glory and honor, praise, adoration, now and forever more be Thine.

My Heart Is Filled with Thankfulness

My heart is filled with thankfulness to Him who bore my pain; Who plumbed the depths of my disgrace and gave me life again; Who crushed my curse of sinfulness and clothed me with His light and wrote His law of righteousness with pow’r upon my heart.

My heart is filled with thankfulness to Him who walks beside; Who floods my weaknesses with strength and causes fear to fly; Whose every promise is enough for every step I take, sustaining me with arms of love and crowning me with grace.

My heart is filled with thankfulness to Him who reigns above, whose wisdom is my perfect peace, whose every thought is love. For every day I have on earth is given by the King; So I will give my life, my all, to love and follow Him.

You Are My All In All

You are my strength when I am weak, You are the treasure that I seek, you are my all in all. Seeking You as a precious jew’l, Lord to give up I’d be a fool. You are my all in all.

Refrain: Jesus, Lamb of God, Worthy is Your name. Jesus, Lamb of God, Worthy is Your name.

Taking my sin, my cross, my shame, rising again I bless Your name. You are my all in all. When I fall down You pick me up, when I am dry You fill my cup. You are my all in all. Refrain

I Will Glory in My Redeemer

I will glory in my Redeemer, Whose priceless blood has ransomed me. Mine was the sin that drove the bitter nails, and hung Him on that judgment tree. I will glory in my Redeemer, Who crushed the pow’r of sin and death, my only Savior before the holy Judge: the Lamb Who is my righteousness, the Lamb Who is my righteousness.

I will glory in my Redeemer, my life He bought, my love He owns. I have no longings for another; I’m satisfied in Him alone. I will glory in my Redeemer, His faithfulness my standing place. Though foes are mighty and rush upon me, my feet are firm, held by His grace, my feet are firm, held by His grace.

I will glory in my Redeemer, Who carries me on eagle’s wings. He crowns my life with lovingkindness; His triumph song I’ll ever sing. I will glory in my Redeemer, Who waits for me at gates of gold, and when He calls me it will be paradise His face forever to behold, His face forever to behold.

Joy Has Dawned

Joy has dawned upon the world, promised from creation. God’s salvation now unfurled, hope for ev’ry nation. Not with fanfares from above, not with scenes of glory, but a humble gift of love, Jesus born of Mary.

Sounds of wonder fill the sky with the songs of angels as the mighty Prince of Life shelters in a stable. Hands that set each star in place, shaped the earth in darkness, cling now to a mother’s breast, vulnerable and helpless.

Shepherds bow before the Lamb, gazing at the glory. Gifts of men from distant lands prophesy the story. Gold, a King is born today! Incense, God is with us! Myrrh, His death will make a way, by His blood He’ll win us!

Son of Adam, Son of heaven, given as a ransom. Reconciling God and man, Christ our mighty Champion! What a Savior, what a Friend, what a glorious mystery! Once a babe in Bethlehem, now the Lord of history!

Jesus Messiah

He became sin who knew no sin that we might become His righteousness. He humbled Himself and carried the cross. Love so amazing! Love so amazing!

Refrain: Jesus, Messiah, Name above all names, Blessed Redeemer, Emmanuel, The Rescue for sinners, The Ransom from heaven, Jesus, Messiah, Lord of all.

His body, the bread. His blood, the wine. Broken and poured out, all for love. The whole earth trembled and the veil was torn. Love so amazing! Love so amazing! Refrain

All our hope is in You. All our hope is in You. All the glory to You, God, The Light of the world. Refrain

Behold The Lamb

Behold the Lamb Who bears our sins away, slain for us – and we remember the promise made, that all who come in faith find forgiveness at the cross. So we share in this bread of life, and we drink of His sacrifice as a sign of our bonds of peace, around the table of the King.

The body of our Savior Jesus Christ torn for you – eat, and remember the wounds that heal, the death that brings us life, paid the price to make us one. So we share in this bread of life, and we drink of His sacrifice as a sign of our bonds of love, around the table of the King.

The blood that cleanses ev’ry stain of sin shed for you – drink, and remember He drained death’s cup that all may enter in to receive the life of God. So we share in this bread of life, and we drink of His sacrifice as a sign of our bonds of grace around the table of the King.

And so with thankfulness and faith we rise to respond – and to remember our call to follow in the steps of Christ as His body here on earth. As we share in His suffering, we proclaim Christ will come again! And we’ll join in the feast of heaven around the table of the King.

There Is a Fountain

There is a fountain filled with blood drawn from Emmanuel’s veins; And sinners plunged beneath that flood lose all their guilty stains. Lose all their guilty stains, lose all their guilty stains; And sinners plunged beneath that flood lose all their guilty stains.

The dying thief rejoiced to see that fountain in his day; And there have I, though vile as he, washed all my sins away. Washed all my sins away, washed all my sins away; And there have I, though vile as he, washed all my sins away.

Dear dying Lamb, Thy precious blood shall never lose its power Till all the ransomed church of God be saved, to sin no more. Be saved, to sin no more, be saved, to sin no more; Till all the ransomed church of God be saved, to sin no more.

E’er since, by faith, I saw the stream Thy flowing wounds supply, Redeeming love has been my theme, and shall be till I die. And shall be till I die, and shall be till I die; Redeeming love has been my theme, and shall be till I die.

When this poor lisping, stammering tongue lies silent in the grave, then in a nobler, sweeter song I’ll sing Thy pow’r to save: I’ll sing Thy pow’r to save: I’ll sing Thy pow’r to save; Then in a nobler, sweeter song I’ll sing Thy pow’r to save.

Give Thanks

Give thanks with a grateful heart; Give thanks to the Holy One; Give thanks because He’s given Jesus Christ, His Son.

And now let the weak say, “I am strong;” Let the poor say, “I am rich,” Because of what the Lord has done for us.

Give thanks.

This week we heard an exposition of what is usually referred to as “the Christmas story” in Luke 2. Because of this week’s focus on that passage, we sang songs that are normally associated with Christmas time. It’s important to remember, though, that these songs that we sing that are usually sung at Christmas time are not only appropriate at that time of year. Many Christmas songs are fully of rich theological truths about the person and work of our Christ. As you read these lyrics, meditate on the truths about your Christ, and worship privately as a result.

WHAT CHILD IS THIS?

What Child is this who, laid to rest on Mary’s lap is sleeping? Whom Angels greet with anthems sweet, while shepherds watch are keeping? This, this is Christ the King, whom shepherds guard and Angels sing; Haste, haste, to bring Him laud, the Babe, the Son of Mary.

Why lies He in such mean estate, where ox and ass are feeding? Good Christians, fear, for sinners here the silent Word is pleading. Nails, spear shall pierce Him through, the cross be borne for me, for you. Hail, hail the Word made flesh, the Babe, the Son of Mary.

So bring Him incense, gold and myrrh, come peasant, king to own Him; The King of kings salvation brings, let loving hearts enthrone Him. Raise, raise a song on high, the virgin sings her lullaby. Joy, joy for Christ is born, the Babe, the Son of Mary.

O COME ALL YE FAITHFUL

O come, all ye faithful, joyful and triumphant, o come ye, o come ye, to Bethlehem. Come and behold Him, born the King of angels;

Refrain: O come, let us adore him, O come, let us adore him, O come, let us adore him, Christ the Lord.

Sing, choirs of angels, sing in exultation; O sing, all ye citizens of heav’n above! Glory to God, all glory in the highest; Refrain

Yea, Lord, we greet Thee, born this happy morning; Jesus, to Thee be all glory giv’n; Word of the Father, now in flesh appearing. Refrain

HARK! THE HERALD ANGELS SING

Hark! The herald angels sing, “Glory to the newborn King; Peace on earth, and mercy mild, God and sinners reconciled!” Joyful, all ye nations rise, join the triumph of the skies; with th’angelic host proclaim, “Christ is born in Bethlehem!”

Refrain: Hark! the herald angels sing, “Glory to the newborn King!”

Christ, by highest heav’n adored; Christ the everlasting Lord; late in time, behold Him come, offspring of a virgin’s womb. Veiled in flesh the Godhead see; hail th’incarnate Deity, pleased as man with men to dwell, Jesus our Emmanuel. Refrain

Come, Desire of nations, come, fix in us Thy humble home; rise, the woman’s conqu’ring Seed, bruise in us the serpent’s head. Now display Thy saving power, ruined nature now restore; now in mystic union join thine to ours, and ours to Thine. Refrain

Hail the heav’born Prince of Peace! Hail the Sun of Righteousness! Light and life to all He brings, ris’n with healing in His wings. Mild He lays His glory by, born that man no more may die. Born to raise the sons of earth, born to give them second birth. Refrain

WHO IS HE IN YONDER STALL?

Who is He in yonder stall at Whose feet the shepherds fall? Who is He in deep distress, fasting in the wilderness?

Refrain: ’Tis the Lord! O wondrous story! ’Tis the Lord! the King of glory! At His feet we humbly fall, crown Him! crown Him, Lord of all!

Who is He the people bless for His words of gentleness? Who is He to Whom they bring all the sick and sorrowing?

Who is He that stands and weeps at the grave where Lazarus sleeps? Who is He the gathering throng greet with loud triumphant song? Refrain

Lo! at midnight, who is He prays in dark Gethsemane? Who is He on yonder tree dies in grief and agony?

Who is He that from the grave comes to heal and help and save? Who is He that from His throne Rules through all the world alone? Refrain

Joy Has Dawned

Joy has dawned upon the world, promised from creation. God’s salvation now unfurled, hope for ev’ry nation. Not with fanfares from above, not with scenes of glory, but a humble gift of love, Jesus born of Mary.

Son of Adam, Son of heaven, given as a ransom. Reconciling God and man, Christ our mighty Champion! What a Savior, what a Friend, what a glorious mystery! Once a babe in Bethlehem, now the Lord of history!

IMMANUEL

From the squalor of a borrowed stable, by the spirit and a virgin’s faith; to the anguish and the shame of scandal came the Saviour of the human race! But the skies were filled with the praise of heav’n, shepherds listen as the angels tell of the Gift of God come down to man at the dawning of Immanuel.

King of heaven now the Friend of sinners, humble servant in the Father’s hands, filled with power and the Holy Spirit, filled with mercy for the broken man. Yes, He walked my road and He felt my pain, joys and sorrows that I know so well; yet His righteous steps give me hope again – I will follow my Immanuel!

Through the kisses of a friend’s betrayal, he was lifted on a cruel cross; He was punished for the world’s transgressions, He was suffering to save the lost. He fights for breath, He fights for me, loosing sinners from the claims of hell; and with a shout our souls are free – Death defeated by Immanuel!

Now He’s standing in the place of honor, crowned with glory on the highest throne, interceding for His own beloved till His Father calls to bring them home! Then the skies will part as the trumpet sounds, hope of heaven or the fear of hell; but the Bride will run to her Lover’s arms, giving glory to Immanuel!

Below are the lyrics to the songs from the past two worship services. Apologies for the lateness of the lyrics from 8/22.

Refrain

Take My Life

Take my life, and let it be consecrated, Lord, to Thee. Take my moments, and my days, let them flow in ceaseless praise. Take my hands, and let them move At the impulse of Thy love. Take my feet, and let them be swift and beautiful for Thee. Take my voice, and let me sing always only for my King. Take my lips, and let them be filled with messages from Thee. Take my silver, and my gold, not a mite would I withhold. Take my intellect, and use ev’ry power as You choose.

Refrain: Here am I, all of me. Take my life, it’s all for Thee.

Take my will and make it Thine; it shall be no longer mine. Take my heart, it is Thine own; it shall be Thy royal throne. Take my love, my Lord, I pour at Your feet its treasure store. Take myself, and I will be ever only all for Thee.

Refrain

And if You had not loved me first I would refuse You still.

Refrain

Now Lord I would be Yours alone, and live so all might see the strength to follow Your commands could never come from me. Oh, Father, use my ransomed life in any way You choose. And let my song forever be: “My only boast is You!”

Come, Christians, Join to Sing

Come, Christians, join to sing: Alleluia! Amen! Loud praise to Christ our King; Alleluia! Amen! Let all, with heart and voice, before His throne rejoice; Praise is His gracious choice: Alleluia! Amen!

Come, lift your hearts on high, Alleluia! Amen! Let praises fill the sky; Alleluia! Amen! He is our Guide and Friend; to us He’ll condescend; His love shall never end: Alleluia! Amen!

Praise yet our Christ again, Alleluia! Amen! Life shall not end the strain; Alleluia! Amen! On heaven’s blissful shore His goodness we’ll adore, singing forevermore, “Alleluia! Amen!”

The Gospel Song

Holy God, in love, became perfect Man to bear my blame. On the cross He took my sin. By His death I live again!

We Will Glorify

We will glorify the King of kings, We will glorify the Lamb; We will glorify the Lord of lords who is the great I Am.

Lord Jehovah reigns in majesty, We will bow before His throne; We will worship Him in righteousness, We will worship Him alone.

He is Lord of heaven Lord of earth, He is Lord of all who live; He is Lord above the universe, All praise to Him we give.

Hallelujah to the King of kings, Hallelujah to the Lamb; Hallelujah to the Lord of lords who is the great I Am!
